Rectangular stoneware box with fitted lid, finished in a characteristic grey and black double glaze with a subtle metallic effect. The strict, architectural form and tactile glaze surface are typical of Svend Hammershøi’s work for Kähler during the interwar period, combining function and aesthetics in a restrained, timeless expression.

Bio:
Svend Hammershøi was a key figure in Danish ceramics in the first half of the 20th century and maintained a long-standing collaboration with Kähler in Næstved. His work is characterized by calm proportions, geometric clarity, and experimental, often subdued glazes. Today, his ceramics from the 1920s and 1930s are regarded as seminal works in the history of Danish modern ceramics.
